Morgan Rogers says difficult loans taught him to handle criticism, as BBC Sport revisits his Bournemouth spell before a reported £117m Chelsea move.

BBC Sport reports that Morgan Rogers questioned whether he would make it as a footballer during a difficult period of loan spells before his move to Chelsea. In a recent interview with Chelsea’s club channel, cited by the BBC, Rogers said those experiences taught him to handle criticism and focus on what he could control. The BBC describes him as Chelsea’s £117m club-record signing. [1]
At Bournemouth, Rogers started three Championship matches and scored once as Scott Parker’s side won promotion. Des Taylor, the former scout who brought him to the club, said Rogers had limited playing time and was not being used in his preferred number 10 role. Taylor said the spell did not work out, but did not blame Parker. Former team-mate Steve Cook said Bournemouth had a chance to sign Rogers permanently, reportedly for £9m, though the move did not happen. [1]
Rogers later made 20 appearances for Blackpool, as a starter and substitute, and scored once. The BBC reports that he then joined Middlesbrough for £1m. [1]
At Middlesbrough, five goals and three assists in a six-match Carabao Cup run preceded Aston Villa’s initial £8m move for Rogers. He said family and friends helped keep him grounded during his earlier doubts. [1]
