According to Nieuws.nl, Maas said he wanted the show to retain the spectacle and humour he associates with *Flodder*, while leaving the musical expertise to Verhulst and his Studio 100 team. The outlet quoted him expressing confidence in Verhulst’s ability to bring the production to the stage. It also reported that Verhulst said Maas had brought him the idea for the musical and welcomed the chance to work with the series’ creator. [1]

Nieuws.nl reported that Maas worked on an earlier *Flodder* musical in 2012, but it did not get off the ground. According to the report, Maas said Tijl Dauwe would direct the new production, although he intended to remain involved in directing the performances. [1]
