Ukraine’s prime minister called the overnight assault the biggest combined attack on its energy infrastructure since the last heating season, as new power cuts were reported in Kyiv and five regions.

Russia launched a combined missile-and-drone attack on Ukraine overnight on 29–30 September, striking energy facilities in Kyiv, the surrounding region and elsewhere, Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi said. He described it as the most extensive combined attack on energy infrastructure since the end of the last heating season. Ukraine’s air force said the assault included 188 drones of several types, including decoys. In its preliminary figures at 08:00, it reported shooting down or suppressing 155 drones and five missiles, with impacts recorded at 18 locations. Koretskyi said 11 regions had come under attack since the previous evening. [3] [1]
The grid operator Ukrenergo reported new power cuts in Kyiv and five regions: Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Sumy and Kyiv. Generating equipment at the Trypilska thermal power plant was damaged, its operator Centrenergo said in comments reported by Vechirniy Kyiv. The operator said repairs would begin when security conditions allowed. [2] [7]
Kyiv’s prosecutor’s office reported three deaths and six people hurt in the capital. A boy was also killed in Vyshhorod, outside the city, the Associated Press reported, citing a regional official. Koretskyi reported five deaths nationwide, including a child, while President Volodymyr Zelenskyy put the toll at seven civilians killed and 24 wounded in comments reported by AP. [5] [6] [1]

Emergency restoration work had begun where conditions allowed, Ukrenergo said. For 30 September, it advised people to shift use of powerful electrical appliances to 10:00–16:00, when solar generation was most effective. [2]
