Anka, Foster, Garcia among Kennedy Center Honors recipients

Singer-songwriter Paul Anka, producer David Foster, actor Andy Garcia, playwright David Mamet and country singer Barbara Mandrell will receive this year’s Kennedy Center Honors, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts announced on Monday.

The annual honors recognize people for their contributions to American culture through the performing arts. Garcia was nominated for an Academy Award and appeared in *The Godfather Part III*. Foster has written songs for artists including Barbra Streisand and Michael Jackson; Mamet is a Pulitzer Prize winner. Anka is known, among other work, for recording “My Way”, later made more famous by Frank Sinatra’s version. Mandrell is known for country music, including “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long”.

This year’s ceremony will be held at Washington’s Capital One Arena, rather than the Kennedy Center. The center’s board decided to close the institution after a judge blocked President Donald Trump’s attempt to add his name to the building, Nieuws.nl reported. It has not been announced whether Trump will host this year’s ceremony.

Last year, Trump hosted the ceremony, where KISS, Gloria Gaynor, George Strait, Michael Crawford and Sylvester Stallone received medals.
