Jordan’s King Abdullah called for unity against terrorism as he commemorated the victims of a deadly shooting at the opening of the country’s parliamentary year on Monday.
The attack took place during a funeral in the village of Hammoud in late October. Nine people were killed at a Greek Orthodox church and dozens were injured, Nieuws.nl reported.
Abdullah asked for a moment of silence and condemned the attackers, saying they had betrayed Jordan’s “great Jordanian family”. He praised the country and its army for their response, and said Jordan would remain resolute against threats to its security and sovereignty.
Queen Rania and Crown Prince Hussein attended the ceremony. Hussein also referred to his father’s speech in an Instagram post, expressing confidence in Jordanians’ wisdom and commitment during difficult times.
