Typhoon Champi leaves 56,000 households without power in Taiwan

Typhoon Champi killed one person and injured at least 350 in Taiwan, where heavy rain, fallen trees and widespread disruption prompted evacuations and the closure of most shops and schools, according to a report by Nieuws.nl citing ANP and AFP.

The report said the person who died was swept away by waves generated by the typhoon. Thousands of households lost electricity, hundreds of flights were cancelled and more than 4,300 people were evacuated.

Taiwanese authorities advised residents to seek shelter. Champi was heading towards China and Japan, the report said.
