PRO leader Jesse Klaver says the Dutch government is moving away from working with his party and Volt on its tax plan, leaving agreement before the plan reaches the House of Representatives on Wednesday in doubt.
After talks at the Catshuis on Saturday, Klaver said there was no political will to work with him and Volt leader Laurens Dassen. Klaver feared the plan would be debated without a majority. Prime Minister Rob Jetten had said a plan would be ready on Tuesday.
The government is still seeking a solution to the taxation of savings and investments in box 3. It wants to lower rates in box 2, which the report says would raise money in the short term but probably cost billions over the longer term.
Dassen called that approach “a move in the opposite direction” and said it was unclear what the government was doing, while accusing it of refusing to make an agreement with the two parties. Klaver said he wanted change, but not “more money to the wealthy”. He said PRO would now put forward proposals in the House.
