Dutch singer Sophie Straat will be the subject of a new documentary following her at home, in conversations with her mother and during performances. The NTR film, directed by Natascha Erfanipour, is due to air on 21 December on NPO 2 as part of *Het Uur van de Wolf*.
In *Sophie Straat: Wie hoog vliegt*, Straat talks about her fears and her desire to be seen. “There’s something exciting about everyone looking at you and having an opinion about you. But that also makes it very hard,” she says.
The film also addresses the backlash after Straat urged white men to move “to the back” at the Best Kept Secret festival. After footage of the remark circulated, she received criticism, hate messages and death threats, according to Nieuws.nl.
Discrimination.nl received complaints about the statement but said it saw insufficient grounds to conclude that discrimination based on skin colour or sex had taken place. Straat said in a statement that she wanted to make space in the mosh pit for women, queer people and people of colour.
