Daniel Ricciardo won the 2016 Malaysian Grand Prix after race leader Lewis Hamilton retired with an engine failure on lap 41. Ricciardo then defended his lead against Red Bull team-mate Max Verstappen. RacingNews365 Nederland’s retrospective says the pair were allowed to race without team orders. [1]
Verstappen had qualified third, one place ahead of Ricciardo. At the first corner, Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel collided. Vettel retired, while Rosberg recovered to finish third. [1]
Ricciardo finished 2.443 seconds ahead of Verstappen. Rosberg took third place and set the fastest lap. [1]
