Landgraaf plans to accommodate up to 300 asylum seekers at Megaland, the site of the annual Pinkpop festival, from November 2026 to May 2027 and again from September 2027 to May 2028. Festivals and other activities can continue there during the summer months, ANP reports. The figure is the planned maximum capacity, not a current number of residents. [1]
The Dutch municipality says the minister for Asylum and Migration asked it to make the site available for temporary emergency accommodation. Landgraaf says the arrangement would fulfil its obligation under the Spreidingswet, the Dutch asylum distribution law. [1]
Landgraaf previously used Megaland for asylum accommodation in 2023. The municipality says that period was safe and its experiences were positive; it expects the new arrangement to be managed safely and responsibly. [1]
