Scotland midfielder John McGinn says he is not undroppable and would support the team from the bench if left out. He was speaking to BBC Scotland chief sports writer Tom English in Skopje ahead of the match against North Macedonia. [1]
In an article published on 3 October 2026, English argued that McGinn’s influence for Scotland had probably declined from earlier highs, while his commitment and work-rate remained. McGinn, whom BBC Sport lists as having scored 21 goals in 91 Scotland appearances, said he accepts both praise and criticism as part of the responsibility he carries for club and country. [1]
Asked directly about his place, McGinn recalled being benched by manager Steve Clarke and said he would be Scotland’s “biggest Scotland supporter on the bench” if left out again. He said self-belief helps him through difficult spells, which he has learnt to manage better with age. [1]
