Amanda Hampton’s family syndicate won the lottery prize less than a year after the death of her sister Michelle.

Amanda Hampton, 51, from Cardiff, was part of a family syndicate that won £10,000 a month for 30 years on 3 February 2025. The monthly prize is for the syndicate as a whole, not for each member. It also includes her brother Gareth, her former husband Matthew and close family friend Louise. [1]
Hampton told BBC News that, while grieving for Michelle, she had asked her sister in her thoughts for a sign that she was all right. When a National Lottery email arrived the next morning, Hampton initially thought she might have won £5. She said the prize had left her feeling financially secure after years of worrying about money. [1]
Since the win, Hampton and Louise have spent some of the money on their homes and gardens, Matthew has bought a car, and Gareth has paid off his mortgage. [1]
