Germany’s gas storage sites were only 61–62% full on Sunday, below the 70% target set for that date, but the government says supplies will be secure this winter even at the current level.
A spokesperson for Germany’s economy ministry told dpa that the country’s gas supply was safe for the coming winter. The government also expects imports to continue, despite higher gas prices linked to the Iran war making it more expensive for energy companies to replenish stocks.
The Netherlands, by contrast, reached its reduced storage target last month. Its reserves are now 66.7% full. The Dutch government has also said it is not greatly concerned about supply security, though households and businesses are likely to face higher energy bills as prices rise.
