Kyiv’s Southern Bridge was closed to traffic in both directions after Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported another hit overnight into Friday, 2 October. City officials diverted bus routes 22 and 91 across the Dnipro via the Darnytskyi Bridge. [1] [2] [6]
At a separate attack site in Kyiv’s Darnytskyi district, emergency workers reported that a strike on a 25-storey residential building killed one person and injured at least two. A fire broke out on the top two floors, and six other people were evacuated. Those casualties were reported at the building, not the bridge. [5]
The bridge had also been hit on Thursday. An initial inspection found no critical structural damage, allowing the two bus routes to resume their usual journeys. Klitschko subsequently reported provisional damage to a bridge support, the road surface and barriers. The extent of any additional damage from the latest reported hit is unclear. [1] [3]
Russia’s defence ministry said its drones struck a road-and-rail bridge over the Dnipro in Kyiv, describing it as a route for Ukrainian military supplies. It did not name the Southern Bridge. [4]
The city’s latest traffic notice gives no reopening time for the Southern Bridge. Buses 22 and 91 have been diverted via the Darnytskyi Bridge while the closure is in place. [2]
