The planned centres would bring employment and training services together across the Netherlands, but the announcement gives no date for nationwide coverage.
The Dutch government says it will open a Werkcentrum, or employment centre, in every labour-market region. The centres are intended for people looking for work or training, those at risk of losing their jobs, and employers seeking staff. [1]
Municipalities, the public employment agency UWV, employers, trade unions, education providers and the vocational training body SBB are to work together through the centres. According to the government, many new sites will be in neighbourhood locations such as shopping centres or libraries, and visitors will be able to drop in without an appointment.
The government says a bill providing for ongoing funding has been sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. The announcement gives no funding amount or date by which every region will have a centre. Minister Aartsen said the initiative was intended in part to help more newcomers into work. [1]
