Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack was arrested outside the venue for Labour’s party conference in Liverpool on Saturday, 26 September, while protesting against the ban on Palestine Action. Stereogum reported that he was arrested on suspicion of supporting a proscribed organisation. [7]
In footage described by Stereogum, Del Naja holds a placard reading: “I oppose genocide I support Palestine Action.” The National reported that he told officers he disagreed with the ban before an officer announced his arrest. [7] [8]
Palestine Action has been proscribed under UK terrorism legislation since July 2025. The Court of Appeal upheld the ban in June 2026, overturning a lower-court ruling that had found it unlawful. The Supreme Court has allowed an appeal on one ground, with a hearing scheduled for November. [4] [6]
At a separate protest in Liverpool on Sunday, Merseyside Police said it had arrested more than 50 people on suspicion of wearing or carrying articles supporting a proscribed organisation. That count concerns Sunday’s protest, not Del Naja’s reported arrest the day before. [2]
It was not clear on Sunday whether Del Naja had been released or charged. He was also arrested at a Palestine Action protest in London in April, The Quietus reported. [9]
