The Dutch Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment has launched Geldstress, a campaign encouraging people aged 18 to 27 to seek help with money worries. It began during the Week Against Poverty and directs young people to Geldfit, where information and support are available free and anonymously. [1]
The ministry says Geldfit can help users find out which support schemes they may qualify for and refer them to local help. Young people can contact the service on WhatsApp, through the chat at geldfit.nl or by calling 0800-8115. Geldfit says it stays in contact until the next steps are clear. [1]
The campaign follows a rise in financial strain among young adults: the ministry cites Nibud research showing that the share who struggle to make ends meet increased from 40% in 2024 to 54% in 2026. It also points to the financial responsibilities that begin at 18 and the risks of small debts growing. [1]
The government plans to promote the campaign online through podcasts, social media and content creators, hoping to reach young people through familiar figures and make asking for help feel easier. [1]
Social Affairs Minister Hans Vijlbrief said timely contact could help young people find a solution and learn what support they are entitled to. Geldfit director Pauline van Brakel said young people often seek better oversight of their finances or advice on applying for an allowance, adding that they need not take the first step alone. [1]
