A Dutch subsidy scheme opened on 2 November to help childcare centres meet the wage costs of group assistants who are developing their skills through training. Applications for the third funding round close on 27 November.
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment says group assistants can take on household tasks and light care duties, freeing qualified childcare staff to focus on their work. The scheme is intended to help reduce pressure on staff and retain workers.
The subsidy is for centres employing assistants who are undertaking vocational practical training or a workplace learning placement. They must have an employment contract lasting at least a year. For an assistant working 36 hours a week, the maximum grant is €10,056; most group assistants work fewer hours. The budget for applications in 2026 is €1,775,000.
