The Dutch benefits agency UWV is abandoning development and implementation of a digital employment-matching system after spending about €55 million on the project over five years, ANP reported. The Bemiddelingsservice (BMS) was intended to connect employers and jobseekers more effectively. [1]
UWV said it had tested the system on a small scale and taken additional measures, but still lacked confidence that it could be introduced within an acceptable timeframe and at responsible cost. [1]
René Steenvoorden, a member of UWV’s executive board, said the decision was regrettable, but that the agency had to manage public money responsibly and stop projects it did not sufficiently believe would deliver the intended result. [1]
