More than four in five Dutch bailiffs who took part in a survey said they had faced aggression at least once in the preceding year. One in five said it happened at least monthly. The survey was commissioned by the bailiffs’ professional body, the KBvG, and reported by ANP. [1]
About 80% of respondents reported verbal aggression, roughly half reported intimidation and about a quarter reported physical aggression. One in five said someone had threatened suicide. ANP said the aggression came chiefly from people with outstanding debts. [1]
The Netherlands has nearly 600 bailiffs. Their duties include delivering summonses and judgments, and seizing property or money. [1]
The incidents are affecting how some respondents feel about their jobs: nearly half said they enjoyed their work less, while a quarter said they sometimes considered finding other work. [1]
