A fault in Schiphol Airport’s electronic passport gates caused long queues on Sunday, forcing all travellers through staffed passport-control desks. The gates have been out of action since 6am, Dutch news agency ANP reported [1].
The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, which handles passport checks, said it was investigating the cause. A spokesperson said there was currently no reason to suspect a cyberattack, while stressing that the investigation was ongoing.
All desks were open, and officers were carrying out less extensive passport checks to help process travellers. But the measures had not cleared the queues, the spokesperson said.
