About 100 activists tried to enter the construction site of a large Microsoft data centre in Amsterdam on Friday morning, as the group organising the protest sought to halt the project, Dutch news agency ANP reported.
The group, Geef Tegengas, changed direction when it saw police and riot police units on its route, according to a reporter at the scene. Police surrounded the demonstrators on Basisweg at 11am and used batons to hold them back, the report said.
The mayor banned the demonstration at about 11.15am. Activists then tried to break through the police line, ANP reported. The article did not say whether anyone was arrested or injured.
Dozens of activists occupied and blocked the site in June. Extinction Rebellion has also joined the campaign, including with an overnight action.
