Harry Brook became the first England batter to score a one-day international double century, making 202 against Sri Lanka as England piled up 429-4 in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The captain reached 200 from 114 balls, setting a new record for the fastest double century in men’s ODIs. India’s Shubman Gill had held the mark, reaching 200 in 117 balls against West Indies last month.
Brook finished with 202 from 116 balls, hitting 21 fours and 10 sixes before being caught off the final delivery of England’s innings. His score surpassed Ben Stokes’ previous England record of 182, made against New Zealand in 2023.
England accelerated sharply at the end, adding 156 runs in the final 10 overs. Brook shared a 159-run third-wicket stand with Joe Root, who made 69, then put on an unbroken 185 with Will Jacks. Jacks struck 66 not out from 25 balls.
Brook’s innings lifted England to the highest ODI total made in Pakistan. Sri Lanka were yet to begin their reply when England’s innings ended.
The performance came two days after England lost their tri-series opener to Pakistan at the same ground. Brook had called for his batters to show more positivity after that defeat; against Sri Lanka, he set the pace himself.
