Turner’s view of Rome has returned to the city for a brief display before a London auction at which Sotheby’s says it could fetch around £50m.
Review information is loading.
Turner’s *Rome, from Mount Aventine* is on show at Palazzo Rondinini for three days, nearly two centuries after the city inspired the painting. The 19th-century work, based on sketches made in Rome, shows a panoramic view of the Italian capital. [1]
BBC News describes the painting as well preserved, with fingerprints and brush hairs still visible. It is believed never to have been restored. [1]
The painting previously sold at auction for more than £30m. Sotheby’s expects it could fetch around £50m when it goes under the hammer in London in December. [1]
