A factory to make offshore wind turbine components is planned for the Port of Montrose in Scotland, with the project expected to support about 80 jobs. Engineering firm Subsea Micropiles, which already has an operations base at the port, is to run the new facility. It expects to make parts for turbines in Scottish waters and international markets. The plans follow a £5m investment. The state-owned Scottish National Investment Bank is providing a further £6.7m, while Scottish Enterprise has pledged £1.45m. [1]
In a separate development, SSE has named Montrose as its preferred location for an operations base for the Berwick Bank B offshore wind farm. That project is expected to create a further 100 jobs. [1]
First Minister John Swinney, who visited the site in Angus, said the expansion would help Scotland retain more of the economic benefits of the energy transition. [1]
