Feyenoord manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst said he expected the club to be fined after fireworks landed on the pitch and briefly halted the team’s 3-0 home defeat by Internazionale. Police arrested two people over the fireworks, Nieuws.nl reported.
The match at De Kuip was stopped for more than a minute. Van Bronckhorst said he was glad the fireworks had not been set off inside the stadium and that none had landed in the crowd. He said they had been launched from outside the ground and asked: “What can you do about that?”
Feyenoord puts nets around the pitch for European home matches to prevent objects or fireworks from reaching the playing surface, according to the report.
