Zinedine Zidane won his first match as France head coach as his side beat Turkey 1–0 in İzmit to open their Nations League campaign. The victory came with an injury concern, however, as match-winner Kylian Mbappé was forced off shortly after scoring. [1]
The France captain struck in the 54th minute, finishing at the near post from a Michael Olise assist. He went down injured immediately after the goal and was replaced by Désiré Doué a few minutes later. The extent of his injury and any likely absence were not immediately clear. [1]
Turkey played the closing minutes with ten men after goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır was sent off for handball. France held on to their one-goal lead to secure a winning start under Zidane. [1]
