The England and Wales Cricket Board would consider helping to fund England women’s planned Test in the West Indies if that became necessary, chair Richard Thompson told BBC Sport. He did not commit the board to paying for the match or give a possible amount. [1]
BBC Sport reports that the ECB and Cricket West Indies have not discussed cancelling the Test. Asked whether it was in doubt, Thompson said he did not expect it to be cancelled and hoped it would take place. Announced in 2024, the match is part of a spring 2027 tour also planned to include three T20 internationals and three one-day internationals. Exact dates and venues have yet to be confirmed. [1]
Cricket West Indies recently announced cost-saving measures, including cuts to player contracts, according to BBC Sport. A women’s Test it was due to host against Australia was cancelled in March 2026, although the white-ball matches went ahead. [1]
Thompson said England want the Test as red-ball preparation for the Women’s Ashes, which begins with a Test at Headingley in June 2027. The squad also plans a 10-day red-ball training camp in India in January. [1]
