All 218 people arrested during a demonstration at a Microsoft data-centre construction site in Amsterdam have been released, Dutch police said on Saturday. One person spent the night in a police cell and was allowed to go home during the day.
The arrests followed Friday’s protest at the Plimsollweg site, organised by the action groups Geef Tegengas and Fossielvrij. Police said some demonstrators were stopped on their way to the designated protest area because they were carrying tools intended to gain access to the site.
Police said demonstrators later forced their way into the construction site and caused damage. Some people who were arrested were carrying items suspected of having been stolen from the site, the police said.
The data-centre operator is filing complaints alleging trespass, damage and burglary.
