Dutch prosecutors say Jan G. has been handed over from Germany as part of an investigation into an attempted cocaine importation.
Review information is loading.
Germany handed a 28-year-old man from Overasselt over to the Netherlands on 15 October, Dutch prosecutors said. He is suspected of involvement in an attempt to import nearly 4,000kg of cocaine. The shipment was found in containers at the French port of Dunkirk on 7 September. [1]
Dutch broadcaster NOS identified the man as Jan G., citing its sources when he was arrested in Germany on 18 September at the request of the Dutch authorities. Prosecutors did not name him in their announcement of the handover. [1] [4]
Prosecutors said he came to investigators’ attention during an inquiry into violence in Overasselt on 1 September. A security guard outside G.’s home was shot dead and two police officers were injured. [1] [2] His appearance in that inquiry does not establish whether the attack was connected to the suspected cocaine importation.
G. is in custody under restrictions that allow him to contact only his lawyer, prosecutors said. Their announcement did not specify the role he is suspected of playing in the attempted importation. [1]
