Henny Huisman says he has never felt like a television icon. Speaking to Cornald Maas for an AVROTROS special marking 75 years of television, the presenter described a career shaped by early bluffing, demanding coaching and a continuing fear of disappointing audiences. Nieuws.nl reported his comments on 3 October. [1]
Huisman recalled telling television producer Joop van den Ende that he was born for TV, though he said he was bluffing. Van den Ende later watched programmes back with him and pressed him to change aspects of his presenting, including his language. Huisman also remembered Van den Ende being strict about his weight. That early show of confidence did not reflect how he felt, Huisman said. He still worries about letting people down, whether he is facing an audience of 20 or 30,000. [1]
Asked what he would wish for television now, Huisman called for familiar presenters who remain central to their programmes. He contrasted that with shows where another presenter can step in when someone is ill, saying he had worked through a high fever himself. [1]
