Samsung has reported a record quarterly profit of 107.4 trillion won (£58bn) as demand for chips used in artificial-intelligence data centres drives up prices and keeps supply tight.
The South Korean technology company’s profit was almost nine times higher than in the same quarter a year earlier, according to a report by Dutch news outlet Nieuws.nl, citing the ANP and DPA news agencies.
Samsung said its high-end chips for 2027 were already fully sold out and expects demand for semiconductors to remain significantly above supply next year. The company is the world’s largest memory-chip maker.
It also plans to increase investment this year by 60% to the equivalent of €56bn. The report said Samsung aims to gain market share from rivals SK Hynix and Micron Technology.
