Police in Rotterdam arrested 12 Kappen met Kolen activists after stopping them from removing stones beneath a coal railway line in the port.
Twelve activists were arrested in Rotterdam on Saturday after police stopped them from removing stones beneath a coal railway line in the port, according to Dutch news agency ANP. The campaign group Kappen met Kolen said it wanted to use the stones to draw attention to the environmental effects of coal [1].
The group had planned to build what it called “a monument to the cycle of life” with the stones. Police intervened before they could remove them, ANP reported.
Kappen met Kolen is linked to Extinction Rebellion. Its activists have also staged protests against companies including Tata Steel, according to the report.
