A minute’s silence was held at De Kuip before Feyenoord’s Champions League match against Internazionale on Tuesday in memory of Jesús de Miguel, the Tenerife striker who died after a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a match on Monday.
The ANP reported that nearly all spectators stood as the stadium fell silent. UEFA had announced that moments of silence would be observed at all Champions League, Europa League and Conference League matches this week.
De Miguel, 30, suffered serious head and chest injuries in the collision. Tenerife said his condition worsened after he was taken to hospital. An earlier report on his condition described the club’s updates following the injury.
Several Dutch clubs were due to play in European competitions later in the week: PSV, AZ, NEC and FC Twente at home, and Ajax away to Midtjylland.
