Formula 1 stakeholders have agreed on the broad direction of the sport’s next engine regulations, Motorsport.com reported on 23 September. The proposed package centres on a 3.0-litre turbocharged V8 with a smaller electric component. The FIA and engine manufacturers still have details to settle. [1]
Motorsport.com and RacingNews365 both put the proposed electric motor at 100kW, compared with 350kW for the current generation. They also report a target of making the complete power unit at least 50kg lighter. Both link the decision to retain a turbocharger to noise restrictions at some F1 venues. RacingNews365’s report, published five days later, describes substantially the same outline rather than a separate rule decision. [1] [2]
