De Munck hopes Dutch team can reach World Championship final

Dutch gymnast Loran de Munck hopes his team’s score will be enough to secure a place in the men’s team final at the World Championships in Rotterdam. The Netherlands were second after three of the six qualifying groups, with the top eight teams advancing.[1]

“It will be difficult, but it’s possible,” De Munck said. “I think we can get close. It will be tense.”[1]

The 27-year-old, a specialist on pommel horse who won European silver in 2022 and 2024, competed only on that apparatus at the championships. He said it was difficult to manage the stress and energy of taking part in just one event, while warming up separately as other gymnasts had already competed.[1]

De Munck said he had delivered a reasonable routine and had adjusted his individual expectations to focus on the team result. He no longer had a chance of reaching an individual final.[1]

Teammate Elijah Faverus said the Dutch squad had targeted a top-12 finish, but that its score could make qualification for the top eight close. He praised the team atmosphere and said reaching the final on home soil would be “really great”.[1]
