Yorkshire has moved from prolonged dry weather to drought status, but Yorkshire Water says it has no plans to restrict customers’ water use for now.
Review information is loading.
Yorkshire entered drought status on Friday 9 October after a dry spring and summer, the BBC reported. The Environment Agency said low levels in rivers and reservoirs prompted the declaration despite recent rain in parts of the region. [1]
The change follows Yorkshire’s earlier classification as being in a period of prolonged dry weather. Environment Agency manager Vicki Townend said the region had experienced its fifth-driest April-to-September period on record. [1]
Yorkshire Water said it had no plans to introduce restrictions for customers at this stage. Andy Shaw, the company’s head of water production, treatment and energy, said the drought designation reflected dry conditions but did not mean restrictions were currently needed. [1]
