FC Groningen conceded an 85th-minute winner to lose 3-2 at home to Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday, despite taking the lead after just 17 seconds.
Jacob Ondrejka put Groningen ahead with a shot that went in off the post. Cedric Hatenboer equalised for Sparta after 15 minutes, and Milan Zonneveld gave the visitors the lead on 25 minutes with a counter-attack goal. Thom van Bergen levelled for Groningen before the half-hour mark.
The match appeared to be heading for a draw until a misunderstanding between Groningen’s Hans Hateboer and goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen left the ball at Andrej Kostić’s feet. The Montenegro international scored the winner.
Groningen are 10th in the table with 15 points from 11 matches. Sparta moved up to 11th with 12 points.
