The Dutch naval commander in the Caribbean announced on Thursday, 8 October, that Dutch defence personnel would begin helping Sint Maarten’s police immediately in efforts to tackle crime, according to ANP. [1]
ANP says Sint Maarten has requested Dutch military assistance five times in just over two years. After a series of violent robberies, its government made a formal request in December 2025. Marines subsequently spent several weeks patrolling with local police and carrying out intensive traffic checks. In August 2026, Dutch marines helped search Point Blanche prison for drugs and bladed weapons. [1]
