US envoy Steve Witkoff is travelling to Oslo on Tuesday, 20 October, for talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, according to the Norwegian government. Fellow US envoy Jared Kushner will join remotely. [1]
Støre said Ukraine had asked for the envoys to take part. He welcomed their involvement, saying Norway and Finland wanted to build on earlier diplomatic efforts and steer them in a more constructive direction. [1]
Separately, Zelensky said he had spoken with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday morning. He said he had told Rubio that Ukraine needed air-defence missiles and warnings of Russian ballistic missile attacks, and that Starshield satellite internet, the military version of Starlink, needed to be restored. Zelensky said they had agreed to speak again soon for an update. [1]
