A building of Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences caught fire in central Kyiv on Monday, 28 September, during Russian drone attacks. Kyiv’s city administration said a drone fell on a non-residential building in the central Shevchenkivskyi district, causing a fire. [1] [4] [6]
In a later update, the city said a woman had died at a building struck in the historic centre and three injured people had been taken to hospital. Reporters for the Kyiv Independent saw smoke rising from several locations across central Kyiv. [1] [6]
President Volodymyr Zelensky said firefighters were tackling the blaze at the academy and rescuers were searching for people who might have been inside. The extent of the damage remained unclear. [3]
