Welsh singer Jamie Miller says recording a version of his viral hit *Babydoll* with actor Antonio Cipriano was a highlight of a sudden breakthrough that has taken him from financial uncertainty to the UK top 10.
Miller, who grew up in Pontprennau, Cardiff, said he had considered quitting music at the start of 2026. Then *Babydoll* spread on social media over the summer, bringing a viral dance, a first UK top-10 single and the number-one spot on the US iTunes pop chart, according to the BBC. [1]
Cipriano, who stars in Amazon Prime Video’s *Off Campus*, commented online that he “needed this song”. Miller messaged him to suggest recording together, then added “haha, joking” after he panicked. Cipriano replied that, if Miller was serious, he would be honoured. They recorded the track in Los Angeles on the day they first met. [1]
Miller said he was a fan of Cipriano’s voice and described the collaboration as “mind-boggling”. The pair later performed together when Miller supported the Jonas Brothers on the US leg of their tour. He said introducing Cipriano on stage “gave me chills”, adding that they could lean on each other as they played their first arenas. [1]
The original *Babydoll* rose from third to second in the UK singles chart on the Friday of the BBC report, behind Taylor Swift’s *Patient Zero*. Miller, 29, also told the BBC that the past couple of years had been difficult and that he had been close to giving up because the music business was expensive and he was struggling financially. [1]
He said the song’s success had been unexpected and that he had not planned a social media campaign. Miller has since made versions of the dance with several performers, including Jennifer Love Hewitt, Lucy Hale, Julianne Hough and Meghan Trainor. He said he hoped to tour his new album, including in Wales. [1]
