EU exports of electric and hybrid passenger cars rose 10% in value to €64.7bn in 2025, while imports increased 4% to €45.1bn, Eurostat reported on 13 October. Both figures measure the value of trade, not the number of cars crossing borders. [1]
Eurostat’s trade figures show that, in 2025, electric cars made up 20% of all EU passenger-car imports and 18% of exports, up from 0.8% and 1.1% respectively in 2017. Plug-in hybrids accounted for 17% of imports and 9% of exports; non-plug-in hybrids made up 23% and 14%. [1]
The agency also reported that EU factories produced 4.8 million electric and hybrid passenger cars in 2025, up from 3.9 million the previous year. They represented nearly 40% of the 12.6 million passenger cars made in the bloc. Their production value rose from €123bn to €139bn. [1]
According to Eurostat’s 2025 electric-car trade figures, China was the EU’s largest import partner, accounting for 42% of imports. The UK was its largest export partner, accounting for 35% of exports. [1]
