AI Policy
AI systems perform research, source comparison, analysis, drafting, translation and other editorial processes. Our articles connect claims to sources and distinguish reported facts, interpretation and uncertainty.
Some publication steps are automated. Systems can select and process sources, prepare and check drafts, publish articles that meet the configured editorial checks, and produce translations and updates. Publication does not imply that Hugo van Duijnen has personally read or approved each article before it appears.
Automated checks and comparison between AI systems are not independent human review. Article-level provenance and version history identify recorded review and substantive changes. AI can make factual, contextual and translation errors.
We identify AI-generated editorial illustrations as illustrations. They are not documentary photographs or evidence that a depicted event occurred. AI translation can change nuance; the original edition and sources remain the reference for checking a disputed passage.
Hugo van Duijnen is Editor-in-Chief and has final responsibility for the editorial framework, standards and correction procedures.
