Former Stoke City manager Tony Pulis says he feels cheated over his side’s 2011 FA Cup final defeat after reports of a finding against Manchester City over Premier League financial rules. In a BBC Sport column published on 27 September, he asked when Stoke would get the cup. [1]
Stoke lost the final 1–0 to City, with Yaya Touré scoring the winner. Pulis called taking Stoke to the final one of the highlights of his 50 years in football and said the reported finding had left a “sour taste”. [1]
CBS Sports reported on 25 September that an independent panel had found City in breach on 114 of 115 charges relating to alleged financial-rule breaches between 2009 and 2018. City has consistently denied the charges and says the Premier League process remains ongoing and confidential. CBS Sports reported that sanctions were still outstanding and an appeal was expected. [2]
Pulis said he did not seriously expect Stoke to receive the cup or winners’ medals, or other trophies to be handed back. He thought a points deduction and a large fine were more likely. [1]
