A request for a roll-call vote means Dutch MPs who had already left The Hague may have to return to decide whether the rainbow flag should fly at parliament on Coming Out Day.
Dutch MPs who had already gone home were expected to return to The Hague after SGP MP Diederik van Dijk requested a roll-call vote on the proposal. ANP reported that the vote was scheduled for 11pm on Thursday. [1]
MP Kati Piri proposed flying the rainbow flag at the House of Representatives building on Sunday for Coming Out Day. ANP reported, citing sources in The Hague after an RTL report, that an earlier request to the House’s governing committee had not been accepted. Piri then put forward her proposal during a foreign affairs debate. [1]
MPs from the SGP, ChristenUnie and PVV were among those who objected to raising the proposal during that debate. Piri argued that Coming Out Day was international in character. A majority allowed her to submit the proposal, but that procedural decision did not approve flying the flag. The result of the scheduled roll-call vote was not established in the report. [1]
