The Netherlands plans to add face-to-face talks to online discussions that will inform advice on tackling online discrimination.
The Dutch government expects a report recommending ways to tackle online discrimination in November 2027, following discussions that anyone can register to join, Dutch news agency ANP reports. The report is to draw on both online and in-person conversations. [1]
State Secretary Willemijn Aerdts, whose responsibilities include the digital economy, has now announced face-to-face meetings alongside the previously announced online discussions. The talks and the planned advice are part of a wider government effort to address online discrimination and hate. [1]
ANP cites Statistics Netherlands as saying more than 580,000 people were victims of online discrimination or hate in 2024. The figure covers both categories, rather than discrimination alone. Aerdts said people should keep discussing how they behave online, where the boundaries lie and what to do when they encounter discrimination. [1]
