Dutch prosecutors have dropped a case involving an alleged death threat against writer Lale Gül, who says a court hearing had been planned.

The Dutch Public Prosecution Service confirmed the decision to the ANP news agency, Nieuws.nl reported on Friday. Prosecutors cited insufficient evidence. The case concerned an alleged threat to kill or seriously assault Gül in Utrecht on 22 November 2025. [1]
Gül said a planned hearing was cancelled the day before because too little time had been allotted. She expected a new date, but received a letter on 12 September saying the case had been dropped. She called the decision incomprehensible, saying the message contained an explicit death threat. [1]
The prosecution service could not explain on Friday why the case was dropped after a hearing date had been set, Nieuws.nl reported. [1]
