People handed in just over 1,600 kilograms of fireworks at government collection points in the week before 2 October, ANP reported. Figures it attributed to the Ministry of Justice and Security included 528 kilograms in Zwolle, 342.1 kilograms in Amsterdam, 254 kilograms in Haarlem and 179.5 kilograms in Leiden. The campaign began in early September. [1]
The hand-ins come ahead of a nationwide ban on consumer fireworks at the 2026–27 New Year. Small decorative fireworks, including sparklers, will still be permitted, ANP reported. [1]
Collection points were scheduled to visit Alkmaar, Groningen, Leeuwarden, Heerenveen, Zoetermeer and Hoorn in the following week, after which the campaign was due to end. [1]
