A bus carrying lorry drivers has hit a stationary freight train at the French entrance to the Channel Tunnel, injuring 19 people, French authorities say. Two were seriously hurt and taken to hospital by helicopter, but no one appeared to be in a life-threatening condition, a local official said. [1]
The collision happened at 19:27 local time on 15 October at the loading platform in Coquelles, near Calais. The bus passengers were due to travel through the tunnel on a shuttle service. All those injured were men and of different nationalities, local sub-prefect Agathe Cury said. [1]
Cury said freight and Eurostar passenger services were not disrupted, apart from a brief pause to allow the injured to be evacuated. Eurostar said the incident did not affect its trains to or from London and that services would run as expected. [1]
